Gibraltar Southern District: Your fascinating lifestyle

Gibraltar Southern district: The southernmost point of the British overseas territory: is Europa Point. In ancient times it was considered one of the two Pillars of Hercules. The other, 32 kilometres away, would be in Morocco, on Mount Djebel Musa. If you are lucky and the weather is good, it is quite possible that you can see the Moroccan coast from this point.

Gibraltar Southern District

One of the most characteristic elements of Europa Point, at the southern tip of Gibraltar, is its lighthouse. Painted red and white -the colours of Gibraltar-, it is the only lighthouse located outside Great Britain that is still managed by Trinity House. It was Sir Alexander George Woodford, governor and commander-in-chief of Gibraltar, who laid the first stone in the early nineteenth century: April 26, 1838.

Also in Europa Point are the University of Gibraltar and the most important mosque of the rock.

Gibraltar Southern district

Gibraltar Southern district enjoys a unique microclimate, as it is the sunniest part of the rock and is not affected by easterly winds to the same extent as the center and the uptown area of the city.

Gibraltar Southern district includes middle-class and upscale residential developments such as The Anchorage, Cliftons, Rosia Plaza, and Vineyards, as well as some upscale individual residences and upper-class developments like Buena Vista Park, The Sanctuary, and New Aloes.

Great views and angles southerly toward the Bay, Strait of Gibraltar, and Africa are often provided by the site. Two junior and middle schools, Loreto Convent and St. Josephs, are available to the district.

Also, the region is home to a large number of historic, tourist, and recreational destinations, such as Parsons Lodge, Europa Point Park, 100 Ton Gun, Rosia Bay, Camp Bay, and the renowned The Botanical Gardens.

Gibraltar Southern district offers many facilities for outdoor sports, such as cycling, hiking, and water sports. This makes it an ideal environment for those looking for a place with a good quality of life.

 Cumberland Steps

Cumberland Steps is located in Gibraltar Southern district close to Cumberland Road, a short street that runs parallel to Rosia Road and is adjacent to Camp Bay and Little Bay beaches as well as a grocery and a petrol station.

Camp Bay is a small rocky beach located on the southwestern tip of Gibraltar. It is very picturesque, with rocky cliffs as a backdrop, the very active Bay of Gibraltar, and Parson’s Lodge Battery, an old British fortress that dominates the northern end of the bay.

At the southern end of the beach, there is a waterfall. This waterfall is salt water returning to the sea from a water desalination plant.

The beach is a bathing establishment, without sand, with two children’s pools and a popular bar restaurant. It is a popular beach for sun worshippers, as it faces south and is located away from the rock itself, it tends to escape the easterly clouds that may be circling the centre of town.

In addition, Camp Bay is home to what is said to be Europe’s first artificial reef. The reef was created by activists who were concerned about the scarcity of marine life. This has created a haven for marine life and is a popular dive site.

At the southern end of Camp Bay is a smaller swimming area, appropriately named Little Bay. Little Bay is a natural rocky cove and also offers a small children’s pool.
